For our final project in my motion graphics workshop, we were tasked with creating an animated type specimen to any music of our choice. I was assigned Klinic Slab, a contemporary slab serif. Like any slab serif, it boasts a classic feel but the versatility and attitude had me thinking about typefaces used in iconic jazz album cover designs. I decided to use a fast paced variation of George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and based the shapes, color choices and movements off of both the music composition itself and three renowned album designs.
